Alright, I'm back. It's been a bit of a strange Friday night for me. However I believe everything is OK now and I can sit back and relax and try not to have a cerebral embolism whilst watching my beloved Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers in game 2 of the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs. I know you don't care, but the Canucks are currently up 3-2 in the second intermission after a fast paced couple of periods. No, not that kind of period, weirdo.
I don't know why furniture manufacturers make more than "edges of seats" chairs for sports fans, because that's all I've been using. Imagine all of the savings in reclaimed materials.

So I've been a bit distracted with bit of personal drama and contentious hockey games tonight, so I thought I'd just dump a bunch of pics of former u/directtelevision2 again. Good morning, all. I regret to inform you that you might be subjected to an unhinged rant based on a specific play in a particular ice hockey game which occurred last night, which shall remain nameless.
OK, for those of you unfamiliar with the sport, games occur on ice rinks with players equipped with ice skates, busting their asses chasing a tiny piece of rubber called a puck but they are limited to using bent pieces of equipment crafted with a variety of materials ranging from wood to carbon fiber called "hockey sticks" to do so. The desired end result of play is to hurtle said "puck" into an approximately 4' x 6' netted pipe guarded by a "goalie" more times than your opponent. It's actually a lot like soccer/fútbol, but it doesn't suck. [*Ducks and covers* I'm just being an idiot. Calm yourselves.]

Now, they have rules associated with gameplay, infractions of which can result in "penalties". If a player is deemed to warrant a "penalty" by infracting upon said rules, they are sent to go sulk in a little box adjacent to the ice conveniently called the "penalty box", leaving their team shorthanded on the playing surface for a set amount of time. Minor infractions result in a 2 minute time out for the player. It's called a minor penalty.
Slightly more egregious infractions may warrant a "double minor", a 4 minute penalty, leaving their team shorthanded on ice for up to four minutes.
Malevolent infractions of the rules can lead to major penalties, 5 minutes, and generally expulsion from the game and the player is subject to suspension from playing for a set number of games by the hockey league.

Still with me? I'm not sure why, but OK.
Alright, do you remember those things I briefly mentioned called "hockey sticks"? Well it is a distinct infraction of the rules to use yours to smack an opposing player in the face. It's called high sticking. It's frowned upon. You can't even play the tiny piece of rubber with your stick above your shoulders. If the player receiving said "high stick" starts bleeding as a result, by rule this is a double minor infraction. You may recall from the previous paragraph [Dear God, there are paragraphs in this post... WTF are you doing?] this is up to and including a 4 minute stint in the penalty box.

I hope you're not still reading this, I'm just venting here.
Alright, so what occurred last night is that one of the premier players in the NHL who is often casually referred to as Connor McJesus [it's McDavid] and is admittedly a phenomenally skilled hockey player, smacked opposing player Quinn Hughes with his hockey stick straight in the face, in the midst of play, in full view of all 4 members of the on-ice officiating staff.
Blood was drawn as a result of this act.
How many penalties do you think were called on the play? You're right: zero.
After the play the officiating staff wouldn't let Hughes continue play until he stopped bleeding so he was sequestered to the player's bench for several minutes while staff attended to his injury.
They all saw a clear infraction of the rules and the result and still called nothing. Nice.
