Dans son sommeil, elle habite Venise avec Marcello, un mystérieux voleur de tableaux, mais le jour elle est Anna, une jeune Parisienne hantée par des rêves de plus en plus inquiétants et oppressants. Alors qu'elle comprend que son "double" vénitien cherche à l'éliminer, la police parisienne l'interroge comme seul témoin d'une affaire de meurtre auquel elle croit avoir assisté en rêve. The man is a puppeteer and maker of marionettes, helping raise the questions that are central to the film: is there such a thing as free will, or is it up to a creator of some kind, or is it just a matter of chance that one acts and thinks as one does?

The same day Francesca fall in love for Antonio and manage the situation becomes harder. A judge is investigating on the illegal lottery; a scandal is going to explode.
