Are these ranked in best to "not best"? Or just random order? Either way, thanks a lot!

Thanks, Horny Toad. There's some great tunes there, that's for sure. Some I'm not familiar with, so I can't wait to hear them.

Let's not immediately dismiss the metal-head (so I gather from the DiAnno era Maiden sig )
What he meant was: "This is all a popularity contest and many many under-rated guitarists have been overlooked by this mainstream list"
I tend to agree with him. There are quite a few guitar solos that I would have included in this list had I been offered the opportunity: Jeff Loomis - well, pretty much anything he's done in "Nevermore", but "Tomorrow Turns into Yesterday" always gives me goosebumps.
Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) and Michael Amott (Carcass, Arch Enemy) both have great anthemic solos that would be included in this list were their bands more popular.
I could mention quite a few more, but that's beside the point.
The list as presented in the original post is a good list. If I didn't have most of those albums anyways, I'd download the links. I just wish they'd have dug a bit deeper and presented some more under-appreciated artists. The list of included bands almost reads like a top-40 station playlist.

EDIT: If Tom Morello saw his name on this list, he'd wonder what the hell the people who compiled this list had been smoking. I really like Tom Morello

^^I was just going to say this. This list is FANTASTIC, by the way. One of the best 'greatest' lists ever compiled in rock music. I remember falling in love with this list when it was printed way back in '98 and I still love it. The guitar solos in just about every one of these songs are deserving.
